The Garden · Saturday 5 September · 11am–2pm

Aarav turns ONE

A first birthday, told the honest way — as a whole year of firsts, orbiting toward a single candle.

Aarav, a laughing one-year-old in a tiny white kurta, held by his mother in a marigold dress while his father kisses the top of his head, in front of a garden fence strung with pastel balloons and a floral number one.
The three of us, one year in.

One lap · twelve firsts

The year, tick by tick.

Month 1First blink at the whole bright world.
Month 2First proper smile — not just wind, this time.
Month 3The first laugh, at the washing machine.
Month 4Found his feet. They are, frankly, fascinating.
Month 5First roll — left to right, no going back.
Month 6First spoon of something orange. Reviews mixed.
Month 7Commando crawl, achieved. Nothing is safe.
Month 8First tooth. We felt it before we saw it.
Month 9Pulled up to standing — terrified and thrilled.
Month 10First clap, on purpose, to loud applause.
Month 11First word: "ta." Manners, immediately.
Month 12First steps — wobbling straight toward the cake.

Chapter three · The garden

What to expect

A low-key, high-joy afternoon on the grass. Come and go as naps demand.

Garden picnic

Blankets on the lawn, a long table of easy food, and shade if the sun turns up early.

Bubbles & balloon man

A steady supply of bubbles and one very patient balloon-twisting gentleman from 12.

Nap-friendly quiet corner

A calm, shaded corner with soft mats — for the small people who peak early.

Dress note: come in colours. The brighter, the better.

Chapter four · The main event

The cake never stood a chance.

One white cake, one orange drip, one determined pair of hands. You already know how this ends.

Aarav mid-smash, both hands buried in a white cake with an orange drip, frosting on his cheeks and grin, as his laughing parents lean in and confetti flies through the air.
